Ménagerie à trois

Ménagerie à trois: A diverse exhibition of artworks from three UK artists presented together for the first time at the Bookcube Gallery.

The birds, beasts and characters that migrate through Michael Hill's drawings and paintings have an innocence and naivety that recalls childhood nostalgia but a bizarre and slightly surreal nature that creates a peculiar tension within his work.
Fiona McKillop's performances to video speak of control and personal testing, allowing external factors to manipulate the movements of her body. Unsettling and sexual, the actions are at odds with their environment.
Richard Proffitt collects, hoards and chances upon shards of wood and trash, forgotten drawings, childhood toys and kitschy ornaments. Objects are gathered, re-selected, altered and juxtaposed in a place where meaning collapses, new myths are determined and horror and stupidity reign supreme.

Exhibition open: 17th April - 3rd May 2008, 10am - 6pm, Monday - Saturday
The Bookcube Gallery is located at the Rathmines Bookshop
203 Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin 6, Ireland

Ménagerie à trois has now ended.

The birds, beasts and strange characters that populate Michael's work have migrated from mythology, folk stories, popular culture, great plains and deep seas. When they meet together, in his drawings and paintings, new histories and false myths are created. His practice has an innocence and naivety that recalls childhood nostalgia but a bizarre and slightly surreal nature that creates a peculiar tension within his work.

Michael works primarily with painting and drawing materials on everyday objects.

The origin of the faeces. Anthology #1.
Chapter ten thousand nine hundred and nineteen ninety-two.
As fertile shit gathers in an apocalyptic dystopia, relics and collections gain importance. In a year minus zero in a place now somewhere else, meaning is collapsing in on itself, horror and stupidity reign supreme. New myths are determined, laws are abandoned, and dreams exist.
